United Methodist Women

The Rockford United Methodist Women is a group of women that gather together to work on service projects and share in fellowship together.  Along with local service projects,  we also make a pledge of money that goes to several organizations recognized by the Methodist Church for outreach to women, children and youth locally, nationally and internationally.

One of our most popular projects is that of making children’s quilts and delivering them to charities that support children at risk in the Spokane area. All the fabric is donated by members and friends in the community. In the past several years we have made over 50 quilts and have taken them to Wishing Star, Martin Luther King Center, Shriners Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, and the Vanessa Behan Crisis Center.

During the year, women piece the quilt tops and make them ready for a group gathering in the late winter early spring where they are layered, sewn and tied.  Before we deliver them in the summer, we have “a blessing ceremony” during one of the worship services.  Just seeing the all the colorful quilts lined up on the alter rail seems to bring joy and happiness to everyone.
